Google released Gemini 3.8 Flash in standard and cybersecurity-tuned versions, marking its third Flash-model launch in six weeks, Ars Technica reported. Google described the standard model as a general workhorse for agentic tasks and software development. The Flash Cyber variant uses the same foundation with additional tuning for vulnerability detection and mitigation.

Developers can access the model at an introductory price through the end of 2026: 75 cents per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens. Google lists regular prices of $1.50 and $7.50. The discount continues a period of aggressive price changes across AI providers as labs compete for business workloads and developers compare the cost of repeated model calls.

Google published benchmark results showing modest gains over Gemini 3.7 Flash in several tests and larger improvements on coding evaluations. Ars reported that the model reached the top of the DeepSWE software-engineering leaderboard at the discounted price. It improved on an agentic computer-use benchmark but remained behind the leading model on that test.

For Flash Cyber, Google said internal evaluations found more vulnerabilities and produced working patches more often than the previous version. The company reported that Chrome’s security team saw a 2.6-fold increase in patch accuracy and that a cloud team found a critical vulnerability in two hours. Those are company and partner claims rather than a broad independent audit.

The pace of release means comparisons can become outdated quickly. Google has emphasized successive Flash updates while a new frontier-level Pro model has not appeared on the same schedule. Independent testing will determine whether the reported coding and security gains transfer across repositories, languages and deployment constraints outside Google’s selected evaluations.
