An early-morning house fire in southeastern Wake County killed a man and one dog, while another dog survived and was taken into animal-control care. Fire crews responded around 1 a.m. Monday to a burning home on Guy Road in southeastern Wake County near Clayton.
Firefighters found an adult man inside the residence, and authorities confirmed that he died in the fire. One dog also died, while a second dog survived and was transferred to Wake County Animal Control.
Multiple agencies participated in the response and investigation after the fire was brought under control. Authorities did not publicly identify the victim before the edition cutoff pending notification and investigative procedures.
The cause and origin of the fire remained under investigation, and officials had not released findings about smoke alarms, ignition, electrical systems or foul play.
